HOME, a film by Yann Artus Bertrand

Watching this documentary made me think about what are we doing on the earth. I've found some information and that's so sad, but we deserve it... I didn't choose a sentence, so I will comment a photo:

The first time I saw this, I realized how little we are if we compare ourselves with the whole Earth, but we feel so powerful that we think we have the power to destroy it. As you can see, there is a huge boat going through the ice, breaking it. And you also can see the ice is melting. Warming is expected to be strongest in the Artic, and would be associated with continuing retreat of claciers, permafrost and sea ice. Other effects of the warming include more frequent occurrence of extreme weather, including heatwaves, droughts and heavy rainfall events, exctintion of species because of the new temperature, and changes in agricultural yields.

The global warming is the result of human activity and the industrialized countries, but some countries think the global warming is because natural causes. What do you think is more reasonable?

Two years ago a lot of countries signed the Kyoto Protocol to stabilize the concentration of greenhouse gases to avoid us to suffer the consequences. In November 2009, 187 states had signed the protocol, and they have to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases, adapt to the effects of global warming and do some geoengineering to remove greenhouse gases from the atmosphere.

The documentary was beautiful because the photography was AMAZING, and it's easier to understand how is suffering the Earth, and we have to be a little conscious about that... if the Artic melts more than that, falling down the biggest icebergs that control the temperature of the Earth the consequences will be worse than the catastrophies that are happening right now: earthquakes, floods and droughts...

DIALOGUE

Interviewer: Excuse me, can I ask you some questions?
Fisherman: Hm... good. I hope they're not stupid.
I: ... okay. Well, I see you are around a lot of nets, so I think you are a fisherman.
F: You are right.
I: When did you start?
F: I don't remember the first day I was on a boat, even I was born on a boat!
I: Really?
F: Yes! My father was a fisherman and my mother always went with him.
I: That's beautiful.
F: Yes, they were so united, I'm happy when I remember how they loved each other. But... hey! We were talking about who am I!
I: Oh!! It's true, sorry! Well, so do you like your job?
F: Excuse me, but that's not a job for me. That's my life! I can't imagine myself out of my boat, out of this town and far away from the sea.
I: I understand. Do you never felt you were empty, or you need new experiences?
F: Yes, and I don't care because everything I wanted to do I did it. The thing is that I don't need to do these eccentric things people now needs. I don't need to travel to China. I don't need to do skydiving. I want to visit things closer, and enjoy the life.
I: Interesting! And what do you think about that there are less fishermen?
F: I don't care. That's not my problem. People think they have a good life when they get money more or less in an easy way and working as less as possible. Yes, I am on my boat six, eight or ten hours, everything smells like fish and I am not the cleanest person, but I am happy because I'm doing what I want to do, nobody is telling me if I have to stay home, and I don't work for another person. I appreciate that my family understands my way of life, and my sons and daughters try to follow my steps, in a modern way.
I: Oh... that's so true. Well, thank you for your time. Can I take a look on your boat?
F: Of course! If you want you can come tomorrow and I teach you a little fishing!
I: I can't reject your invitation! Amazing! Thank you!

FORMAL LETTER

23, Sant Joan dels Erms st.
Castelló d'Empúries
17486 (Girona)

14/4/2011

Mr. John Ritch
World Nuclear Organization director general

Dear Mr. John Ritch,

I am a seventeen-old-year-girl who studies at IES Castelló d'Empúries, and while we were debating what happened in Japan some weeks ago, we had the chance to write a letter to you. So, I am going to use this opportunity to express my views about nuclear power.

First of all, I am not like a Greenpeace member, so I am not a huge defender of alternatives energies. Obviously I agree nuclear power would produce a big catastrophy like what happened in Japan.

On the one hand, we are all guilty because we made this consumer system, but on the other hand we might be victims of who is more powerful than us. We did not decide what kind of energy we wanted to use, but we also do not care either.

Maybe we must be a little bit conscious about how the Earth is suffering because of our lifestyle, and even if governments have to invest more, we will gain in the future.

I am sure this is not your opinion, but we might think as a group, not as an individual -as we are doing... since... who knows?-. We should shut down nuclear power stations to prevent future catastrophies.

Anyway, it's our fault the disasters we will produce to nature.

I am looking forward to hearing from you and your new nuclear plans.

Yours sincerely,

Claudia Escobar

EARTHQUAKE IN JAPAN

On friday 11th a catastrophy happened in Japan.Imagine you are at work, at school or just having a walk through Tokyo. Suddenly the ground begins to tremble more than normal and you realize that finally arrived this day that someone told: "it had to come, because Japan is waiting for a huge earthquake".

The Tohoku earthquake is officially named the Great East Japan Earthquake. It was a magnitude 9,0 undersea megathrust earthquake off the coast of Japan, with the epicenter approximately 70 km east of hte Oshika peninsula of Tohoku.

This earthquake is the most powerful known that have hit Japan, and the tsunami that came after triggered waves of up to 38 metres, that is extremely letal.
In some case these waves travelled around 10 km inland. It's obvious it has been so hard because it moved Honshu island 2,4m east.

The National Police of Japan has confirmed around 15,000 deaths and 5,500 injured and 11,000 people missing. The tsunami also caused a number of nuclear accidents (for examples some fires produced by the , and this caused the evacuation of all the people who was 20km around the Fukushima II Nuclear Power Plant.

I don't know if this is so serious, but journalists are describing this like what happened in Chernobyl, and I think that's not true. Everybody is nervous, I can understand but Japan is a super developed country and they have what they need to go on and repair all the pain we caused because of Nuclear Power and the decisions of nature.

MY IDEAL BOYFRIEND OR GIRLFRIEND...

I know nobody is perfect and for this reason I haven't got a prototype of the perfect boy or girl, but if I can choose I want someone able to understand me and able to accept me just the way I am. Physically I don't know what kind of boy or girl I like the most, maybe someone like Megan Fox, Lily Loveless or Jeremy Kapone.

THE PODCAST... COMING SOON ;D

Human Rights

0. Take the Quiz: do you know about rights? what's your score?
I got maybe 15/41. I couldn't go on because that website doesn't work so good, I only did 28 out of 41 questions.

1. What are human rights?
Human Rights are the rights and freedoms to which all humans are entitled.

2. When did human rights start?
This started after the II World War. They have started by Roosevelt.

3. Why were they created?
They were created t
rying to solve or make up all the crap it happened in that war, for example the jewish genocide and they were created also because they didn't want all this happen again.

4. How many human rights are there? There are 30 rights articles.

5. Which human right were you not familiar with?
  • No one shall be subjected to arbitrary arrest, detention or exile.

6. Choose one human right and discuss:

I've chosen the 2nd article: Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. Furthermore, no distinction shall be made on the basis of the political, jurisdictional or international status of the country or territory to which a person belongs, whether it be independent, trust, non-self-governing or under any other limitation of sovereignty.

Everybody talks about equality, everybody has the same rights blahblahblah but everybody knows NOW it can't be possible. Maybe we are equal in front of the law, but we have a lot of prejudices that stop us when we know somebody is different of us. We are so coward and we don't know how can we handle a situation with someone different, if he or she is going to hurt us or something... and it will be difficult changing this fact. Anyway, we are more tolerant than before, that's sure.

7. Are Humans rights relevant in the world today? why?

Yes, but not so deeply, because everybody tries to do gestures of solidarity, for example with the Third World, because ohhh poor children, they can't eat food, they haven't got water... oh... so sad. Yes, that's so sad. But anybody cares when children in Asia are exploted in some factories sewing on the jeans you are wearing right now, or the girl who will be stoned because in her country girls who drink beer in public are outrageous and they must be dead. Nobody talks about it, we are so hypocrite.

My future

I know I have to talk about my future or what are my expectations, but I don't know what can I say. I don't like making decisions and I don't know how to live my life with the expression "carpe diem" on my face. I'd be a liar if I say I want to go to University, and study a lot to be rich. My first thing I want to do is finish 2nd Batxillerat and go away. I'm looking forward to catch a train and go to Barcelona, because there is where I want to study. I want to leave home and Castelló, because I'm fed up of a lot of people of here. Not because they're bad people or something like that, I just want to live new experiences, I don't know how is live alone, I want to know what is the "do it yourself"...
After that I don't know what can I study. I thought I can dedicate four years of my life on pedagogy. But I have no idea what can I do with my life. It also would be cool being president of Spain. I don't like my country and I'd change everything I think it's stupid.

After going to University I want to live in another country. Maybe in the Netherlands, maybe in Germany or maybe in USA, but I'm dreaming too much! It's obvious I won't stay here.

So, there's just one thing I need to do right now: leave home! This is something I'm waiting since I started ESO, and every year it's getting closer!

I have nothing more to say!

See you,
Claudia

My joke

There are two muffins in an oven. One of them says "Oh Jeez... it's so hot here!" and the other muffin says: "Oh, there's a muffin that talks!!"
